Let, x = 0.99999999999999....................... => 10x = 9.99999999999999....................... => 10x = 9 + 0.99999999999999................... => 10x = 9 + x => 9x = 9 => x = 1 So, 0.99999999999999............................ = 1Is anything going wrong here?

0.99999999................... = 1

ReplyDeleteHere u hv used "EQUAL TO" sign. But actually it is "ALMOST EQUAL TO".

In your 4th line of proof you hv assumed "0.999..." almost equal to x.

Welcome to my blog :) Very old post, nice catch.. :)

DeleteI actually disagree :) I think the proof is legal and yes 0.9999.....(to infinity) does `equals` 1

DeleteNaah, it is still almost equal, not exactly equal.
